We've been so lucky to have so many visits from grandparents this year!
Steve had scheduled a two week long trip at the end of April, so we thought it would be fun to fly Grandma Howell out for a visit. Then Steve's trip got cancelled, but Julie was still happy to come spend some time with us anyway. So Jaden, Steve and I got Grandma Howell all to ourselves for two whole weeks! It was wonderful!
Julie and I had lots of sewing projects planned, like helping me with skirts for trek and working on a quilt I had started. She also helped me with my digital scrapbooking and we made lots of yummy treats like homemade marshmallows, strawberry cheesecake bars, and a polka dot cake that we auctioned off at a ward YW fundraiser. And even though we ate lots of treats, we also exercised and went on a lot of walks :).
The Sunday before she came, we were skyping with the whole Howell family and Uncle Shawn (the teaser) put a homemade cookie up to the screen right in front of Jaden. Poor boy doesn't quite understand the concept yet that he can't reach through the screen to grab the cookie :(. Grandma decided that she and Jaden would have to make cookies together when she came to visit. But FIRST, she had to get out our sewing machine and make Jaden a darling Cars apron! He wasn't too sure about the apron idea at first, but he's getting the hang of it.
Jaden loved having Grandma there to color with him, read stories, play the piano, etc. I am amazed at how quickly he learns new things when he's around grandparents. It seems like he just picks up new words like crazy and his fun little personality comes out in ways that we haven't seen before. It's so important to have grandparents, and we feel so blessed that we get to see them as often as we do.
We also did some fun things together with Steve, including a trip to Rehoboth Beach, a baseball game, dinner with a family in the ward and missionaries, time in the yard, and a dinner and shopping celebration for Julie's 50th birthday! (She probably won't be happy with me writing about her age, but the candles in the picture give it away, anyway :).)
